Greetings and Happy New Year.
We have to plan for having prolific and productive
activities during the year 2008. I am confident; with
your co-operation and active participation we will have
many fruitful activities in the I.O.A and State Chapters.
I particularly seek your help for the following:
1. Presidents theme for 2008: "SAVE BONES-PREVENT
OSTEOPOROSIS"
The following is the plan of action:
Printing of the President’s theme on all the
Letter Heads, Newsletters, Brochures and Souvenirs of
conferences of State Chapters.
Arranging Guest Lectures/Symposia in State Chapter
Conferences on “Osteoporosis“.
3. Arranging program on Osteoporosis on 19th October
2008 on the eve of World Osteoporosis Day. It will be
designed to educate the public and to encourage physicians
to monitor and advise their patients about the importance
of bone health, the status of their bone mineral density
and to calculate their fracture risk. Half of women
and nearly one-quarter of men will develop osteoporosis,
and the numbers will climb with the increasing lifespan
of the Indian public. Awareness also needs to be raised
about the importance of maintaining bone health among
younger people. "Prevention is the key; we need
to start with younger people. Teaching children between
the ages of 9 and 19 will make all the difference in
prevention."
This will consisting of:
BMD camps for detection of osteoporosis.
Distributing pamphlets in local language on osteoporosis
awareness.
Public awareness lectures on osteoporosis.
Organising Talk Shows, T.V interviews, articles in the
local press on Osteoporosis awareness and prevention.
Distribution of C.D prepared on the above
2. We are planning to start more academic activities
and fellowships for the benefit of our members.
3. We plan to publish an address directory this year.
